Thirteen-colour clinical flow cytometry system

Beckman Coulter Life Sciences has introduced the DxFLEX, Europe’s first CE-IVD, 13-colour clinical flow cytometry system. The DxFLEX uses avalanche photodiode (APD) technology, which creates a highly sensitive semiconductor electronic device able to convert light to electricity. Beckman Coulter Life Sciences first harnessed the use of fibre optics in its flagship research flow cytometry system, the CytoFLEX. The use of APD technology transforms the way a compact flow cytometry instrument can deliver high-content research analysis.

Fifth-generation bile acids assay: some key features

Randox utilises the advanced enzyme cycling method for bile acids, which displays outstanding sensitivity and precision when compared to the traditional enzymatic tests. With excellent linearity up to 188 µmol/L for the comfortable detection of clinically important results, and a liquid ready-to-use format for convenience and ease-of-use, the Randox 5th Generation bile acids assay offers an exceptional correlation coefficient of r=0.99 when compared to other commercially available methods.

Tecan’s new DreamPrep NAP workstation is designed to simplify nucleic acid extraction workflows. Tecan has collaborated closely with Zymo Research to offer a ready-to-go processing solution for the ZymoBIOMICS 96 MagBead DNA Kit, including walkaway quantification and normalisation with an onboard Infinite 200 PRO reader.

Ductless fume hoods enhance personnel safety

The Purair Basic Series ductless fume hoods are compact and ideal for use in laboratory environments where space is limited or where only small volumes of harmful substances are handled. The Purair Advanced Series ductless fume hoods are available in seven standard sizes in metal or polypropylene construction. These high-efficiency products are designed to protect the user and the environment from hazardous vapours generated on the work surface.

Next-generation GeneSys image capture software

Syngene, has announced that its GeneSys software is now available with the addition of new ChemiRapid, Signal Accumulation Calculator (SAC) and Enhanced Image features designed to improve chemiluminescence imaging workflow and quality. The software, available for free download to users of specific Syngene imaging systems, offers picture-perfect chemiluminescence blot images.

Remote monitoring for consistent and cost-effective cell culture

The Olympus Provi CM20 monitoring system provides quantitative data about the health of cell cultures while they are in the incubator. The system periodically scans the cultures, counts the number of cells, determines confluency and wirelessly communicates the data to a tablet or PC. Using the CM20 system, data can be acquired that will help to improve the reproducibility and stability of the cell culture process.

Haematology analyser designed for mid-size laboratories

Beckman Coulter, a global leader in clinical diagnostics, today announced the commercial launch of its new DxH 690T haematology analyser. Designed to help laboratories streamline workflow and maximise uptime, the DxH 690T offers all the benefits of the company’s flagship DxH 900 haematology analyser to mid-size laboratories, including the recently released Early Sepsis Indicator

Introducing a next-generation centrifuge series

Scientists working across research and clinical diagnostic applications can now access a series of sophisticated next-generation centrifugation systems designed to offer improved performance, reliability, consistency and safety. These centrifugation systems are among the first to feature a full-colour, user-friendly touchscreen interface, enabling an advanced level of functionality for improved laboratory efficiencies.

High-efficiency laminar flow cabinets

The Purair Laminar Flow Hoods are a series of high-efficiency products designed to protect equipment and other contents of the work zone from particulates, for applications sensitive to such contamination.

Temperature control for HPLC columns

Torrey Pines Scientific has announced its new EchoTherm HPLC Column Oven Model CO20. The temperature range is from room temperature to 90°C readable and settable to 0.1°C. The PID temperature control software regulates temperatures to ±0.1°C. Temperature accuracy and stability are ±0.1°C with a stable temperature indicator lamp on the front panel that lights when the target temperature is stable to within ±0.2°C.

Advanced onboard automation for Syrris Atlas HD reactors

Syrris has upgraded the touchscreen firmware for its Atlas HD jacketed reactor systems to offer many of the advanced automation features previously only available using the system’s PC-based control software. These enhanced automation options – such as pH-controlled and temperature-dependent dosing – add to the system’s existing functionality to offer even greater flexibility in protocol design.

Environmentally friendly ductless fume hoods

The Purair ECO Series ductless fume hoods are designed to protect the user and the environment from hazardous vapours generated on the work surface. Central to the ECO Series design is the innovative Air Science Multiplex Filtration Technology and the exclusive EFT Enhanced Filtration Technology developed to assure universal protection in the work environment over the widest range of applications.

Targeting winter illness testing

R-Biopharm Rhone offers a variety of product technologies including rapid tests for pathogen detection, ELISAs and PCR assays covering respiratory, enteric, STI, transplant and microbiome targets. All assays are CE/IVD marked for clinical diagnostics use.

Fingerprint-based POCT drug test

Intelligent Fingerprinting, the company behind the first portable fingerprint-based drug testing system, has launched a new drug screening test designed to meet the needs of drug rehabilitation organisations. The test is fingerprint-based, taking less than a minute to collect a fingerprint sweat samples onto the small drug screening cartridge and just ten minutes to screen for the opioid substitution drugs methadone and buprenorphine.

Monoclonal antibodies to Gardnerella

Gardnerella vaginalis is a major species present in bacterial vaginosis. It is a small Gram-variable, anaerobic coccobacillus. Overgrowth of this bacterium occurs due to an imbalance of normal vaginal flora which can result from prescription antibiotics. Microscopic evaluation often shows this bacterium associated with epithelial ‘clue cells’. Treatment with metronidazole or clindamycin is recommended.
