First in vitro diagnostic test to target ROS1-positive lung cancers
Roche Diagnostics has launched the VENTANA ROS1 (SP384) antibody, the first and only in vitro diagnostic ROS1 immunohistochemistry (IHC) assay. The test detects the presence of ROS1 protein in tissue, and may be useful in identifying ROS1-positive lung cancer cases. Mutations of the ROS1 gene are present in some non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cases and can help indicate which patients would respond with a targeted treatment.
Gold-standard automated antimicrobial susceptibility testing
A new benchtop automated reading and incubation system is now available in Europe for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST). The new instrument, from Thermo Scientific, provides microbiology laboratories with the accurate MIC results that clinicians need to confidently select an effective antibiotic for critically-ill patients while safeguarding future patient care through more successful antimicrobial stewardship.
Monoclonal antibodies to mycobacteria
ViroStat has just released two new MabyRab rabbit monoclonal antibodies that are specific for mycobacteria lipoarabinomannan (LAM). These new antibodies form a pair for the detection of LAM and are reactive with all strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis tested. They offer new tools for TB research and potential for rapid detection.
Infectious Disease Antibodies and Antigens: 2019 catalogue
ViroStat has announced the release of its 2019 Catalogue of Infectious Disease Antibodies and Antigens. This new catalogue contains over 750 products including MONOTOPE mouse monoclonal antibodies, MabyRab rabbit monoclonal antibodies, OMNITOPE polyclonal antibodies, and recombinant antigens
Cell culture microbioreactor system
Sartorius Stedim Biotech (SSB) has introduced its new generation of ambr 15 cell culture automated microbioreactor system. The Generation 2 is the successor to the well-established ambr 15 cell culture system, proven in the industry to significantly reduce cell line development timelines and increase laboratory productivity. The new system offers increased flexibility and expanded capability for clone selection, media and feed optimisation, and early process development work.
Benchtop centrifuges
Labnet International has added two new benchtop centrifuges to its popular laboratory centrifuge product line. The C0226R Refrigerated Universal Microcentrifuge is a highly-efficient table top design intended for general laboratory use. Evolved and expanded manual pipette family
Integra Biosciences has expanded the EVOLVE manual pipette range with the launch of the new 16-channel EVOLVE. Ergonomically designed to increase productivity and improve user handling, the new model is available in 10, 50 and 100 µL formats. The 16-channel option features 4.5 mm tip spacing, ideal for working with 384-well plates, reducing the number of pipetting movements, improving accuracy and increasing reproducibility.
Treponema pallidum monoclonal antibodies
Syphillis has long been a scourge of mankind. It is a sexually transmitted disease caused by Treponema pallidum, a spirochaete that cannot be cultured in vitro. Clinical symptoms include genital sores through which the organism gains access to the bloodstream and lymphatic system. In severe cases it can affect the skeletal and nervous system.
D-dimer reagent launched for haemostasis range
HORIBA UK Medical has launched a D-dimer parameter for its Yumizen G haemostasis range of instruments. The new Yumizen G DDi 2 (D-dimer) reagent kit offers a key measurement and reference exclusion test for the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). It can also be used for monitoring the progress and effectiveness of treatment for disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).
Pipette tip magnetic revolution
Integra Biosciences has introduction the MagneTips system. Complementing the company’s popular GripTips, the MagneTips technology eliminates the need to pick up pipette tips – simply wave the pipette over the tip box, push the button and tips will snap on automatically. This technology can be seen in action by visiting the Integra website and watching footage of the system in testing.
Rapid, simple and cost-effective carbapenemase detection
Mast Group has launched the MAST CARBA PAcE for rapid carbapenemase detection in Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter and Enterobacterales.
