Tracking tract infections

Oxoid has extended the range of diagnostic tests available for the detection of urinary tract infections with the addition of RapID SS/u (site specific û urine).

Caught in the SpeedTrap

Barnstead Genevac has just launched the miVac Quattro, a centrifugal concentrator for biological samples.

Extended range of Microbiology Stains.

The extensive range of Microbiology Stains from Pro-lab Diagnostics available in concentrated and ready to use format in 100ml, 250ml, 500ml, 1 liter and 2 liter formats, has been extended.

Are you being servered?

GuavaLink automation server software has been developed to automate the processing of multiple microplates on Guava personal cell analysis (PCA) systems.

Now youÆre motoring

The capturing of fluorescence images is easier than ever thanks to new motorised accessories for the Nikon Eclipse 80i (pictured), making it simpler to choose the most appropriate combination.

Compound fractions

Shimadzu is introducing the GCMS-QP2010s gas chromatography/ mass spectrometer, which delivers high throughput and a good cost-to-performance ratio.

No more bubbles

TecanÆs new HS 400 Pro and HS 4800 Pro are based on the well-established HS series of hybridisation stations, and have been designed to maximise the reproducibility and reliability of microarray research by giving automated slide processing, from pre-hybridisation to drying.

Array those diodes

Hitachi High-Technologies has introduced the U-0080D biospectrophotometer.

ItÆs right on the button

IBS (Integra Biosciences) has officially launched the Mediajet û a next-generation system that enables automated filling of up to 540 Petri dishes at the push of a button.

Dot, slot, spot and blot

Millipore has introduced two sensitive new chemiluminescent substrates for Western blotting applications.

ItÆs a lockout . . .

However efficient a laboratory might be, the job is only done when the results reach the client. Electronic reporting via the intranet or the web is often the chosen method, but must be totally secure while giving easy access to well-presented data.

Faster Pancreatic Serum Test

ScheBo Biotech, a global leader in the provision of unique diagnostic tests, has made some significant improvements to its Pancreatic Elastase 1 Serum Test for acute pancreatitis. The modifications are similar to those made last year to the ScheBo Pancreatic Elastase 1 Stool Test (also known as the Faecal Elastase Test), which is now generally accepted as the non-invasive ætest of choiceÆ for measuring pancreatic exocrine function.

Mass spectrometry for protein biomarkers

Applied Biosystems and its partner, MDS Sciex, has announced the introduction of the 4800 MALDI TOF/TOF analyser, which is claimed to be the most sensitive MALDI TOF/TOF mass spectrometer for identifying and quantifying protein biomarkers.

Haemoglobin testing by capillary electrophoresis

Introduction of the haemoglobin kit for Sebia Capillarys, now available from Analytical Technologies, will allow haematology laboratories to take advantage of capillary electrophoresis technology to make the separation of normal haemoglobin fractions and detection of major haemoglobin variants easier and more reliable, it is claimed.

Follow the user-friendly blood gas analyser

Bio-Stat has announced the UK launch of the Osmetech OPTI CCA blood gas analyser, with colour touch screen.

Riding the spectral range

The Digital Eclipse C1si spectral laser confocal system, now available from Nikon, claims dramatically improved image quality from multiple fluorescence probes in a sample, particularly in live-cell applications.

Enhancements to DTX software and systems

Beckman Coulter has introduced two new software packages and a verification system for its DTX series multimode detectors, increasing power and ease of use as well as providing tools for 21 CFR Part 11 and other regulatory compliance.
