Faster Pancreatic Serum Test

ScheBo Biotech, a global leader in the provision of unique diagnostic tests, has made some significant improvements to its Pancreatic Elastase 1 Serum Test for acute pancreatitis. The modifications are similar to those made last year to the ScheBo Pancreatic Elastase 1 Stool Test (also known as the Faecal Elastase Test), which is now generally accepted as the non-invasive ætest of choiceÆ for measuring pancreatic exocrine function.

Like the Stool Test, the new Serum Test is now much quicker, easier and more economical to carry out than before, without any associated loss of reliability or accuracy. ScheBo Biotech has again reduced the total incubation period by 80 minutes, this time from 155 to just 75 minutes. This represents a time saving of 52%. As with the Stool Test, the changes and refinements that have been made include the introduction of a ready-to-use complex of anti-E1 Biotin and POD-Streptavidin. The ScheBo Pancreatic Elastase 1 Serum Test provides a targeted method of diagnosing acute pancreatitis. It is a pancreas-specific test in which the serum levels remain elevated for longer than those of amylase or lipase. This enables diagnosis to be made even a few days after the onset of the disease. As an added bonus, serum pancreatic elastase 1 concentration only marginally increases in patients who have renal insufficiency. Ivor Smith, Managing Director of ScheBo Biotech UK Ltd, comments: ôOur customers really appreciate the changes to our Pancreatic Elastase Stool Test, so itÆs logical to deliver the same improvements to the Serum Test. Because we use monoclonal antibodies specific for human pancreatic elastase, our tests are truly pancreas-specific. The results are not affected by patients continuing any pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy they may have already been prescribed. Our Faecal Elastase Test has become the UKÆs Gold Standard for non-invasive pancreatic exocrine function testing.ö A detailed description of the ScheBo Pancreatic Elastase 1 Serum Test is included in the instruction manual that is provided with every kit, or can be requested direct from ScheBo Biotech.
