ItÆs a lockout . . .

However efficient a laboratory might be, the job is only done when the results reach the client. Electronic reporting via the intranet or the web is often the chosen method, but must be totally secure while giving easy access to well-presented data.

As a result of volume sales of its WinLIMS products, QSI (Quality Systems International) has agreed to license its Crystal XI and Enterprise technology for the WinLIMS reporting module with market leader Business Objects. This will deliver a secure central control and publishing facility, plus a repository for documents and reports. A range of management tools is also included. Reports can be filed and controlled by category û for example, by the role of those needing to access them, such as the laboratory manager, biomedical scientist or client. And information within reports can be segregated so different elements can be sent to various recipients, depending on their specific needs or security profile. For audit purposes, records are kept when reports are run outside the controlled WinLIMS environment (eg via the web). The reporting module maintains a history of each report and notes each time it is run, and with what data included. The system also offers dynamic prompts that can simplify and speed up report design, while also reducing the potential for error. QSI believes that even small laboratories can now achieve the industry standard when it comes to reporting.
