Reducing preanalytical errors: introducing a new commercial partnership

Two companies have recently joined forces with the aim of reducing errors in the preanalytical phase following blood collection and before samples arrive in the laboratory.

Here, Tom Coulson from Beckman Coulter Diagnostics and Dr Hans Maria Heyn from Smart4Diagnostics explain how this exciting new partnership will work to the benefit of the laboratory service.

Beckman Coulter Diagnostics and Smart4Diagnostics recently signed a new partnership agreement to work together to close the preanalytical data gap between blood collection and laboratory analysis due to errors that take place before the sample arrives in the laboratory – such as issues with sample collection, patient identification, sample handling, sample transportation, sample loss, etc.

Up to 75% of all errors in the preanalytical phase take place outside the laboratory. How exactly do these happen? What is the main cause?
