RECENT PRODUCT NEWS

Liquid Amies transport swabs

The Liquid Amies Transport Swab kit is the latest product to be introduced in the Probact range of transport swab kits from Technical Service Consultants (TSC).

Microarray for autoimmunity

Menarini Diagnostics, a leading UK supplier of diagnostic equipment and reagents, has expanded its autoimmune product portfolio with the launch of the new AMiDot MicroArray slides. AMiDot allows multiple autoantibodies to be detected in just one sample analysis.

Electrodeionisation water purification system

Elga Process Water has introduced the Medica Pro EDI, a new electrodeionisation (EDI) water purification system for clinical diagnostic market.

Mobile ductless fume hoods

Air Science has introduced its new mobile ductless fume hood, the EDU. It is excellent for use in demonstrations and training as it is totally self-contained and provides all around visibility.

Liquid immunoassay controls

In response to growing European market demands, Randox Laboratories has launched a new liquid frozen, multiplatform immunoassay control. All Randox controls are true third-party controls, manufactured independently using quality screened human serum. The controls are designed for use in the routine monitoring of accuracy and precision in patient sample testing.

Blood bag temperature indicator

The new Blood Temp10 blood bag indicator has been designed and manufactured by Timestrip in response to the need to reduce wastage of blood stocks, discarded through uncertainty about temperature breaches incurred when bags are in use and removed from carefully controlled refrigeration storage units in blood banks.

Microcentrifuges with increased speed and capacity

Microfuge 20 and 20R microcentrifuges from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences are designed to meet the specific requirements of a wide range of research applications, and are efficient and easy to use. Paired with Microfuge-series rotors, the compact instruments provide flexibility and reliable, precise performance while having a small footprint.

Growth systems for bacterial cultures

BioSilta Oy, a developer of advanced microbial growth systems, has announced the launch of the first products in its EnPresso B range of reagent-based growth systems for bacterial cultures. Extensive results from independent laboratories around the world have confirmed that these new products typically increase protein yields by five- to 100-fold and improve protein functionality when compared to results using conventional growth media.

Continuous-wave xenon light source

The HPX-2000-HP-DUV xenon light source from Ocean Optics is a powerful 75-W short-arc lamp ideal for UV-Vis absorbance spectroscopy and other applications where a high-intensity lamp is necessary. The lamp provides continuous spectral output from 185 nm to 2000 nm and has up to 2000 hours of bulb life.

Automated thyroid and lung cancer marker assays

Three automated assays that will allow laboratories to provide information to aid the diagnosis and monitoring of cancer patients have been added to the extensive Roche assay menu.

Micafungin added to fungal susceptibility card

bioMérieux has created a new fungal susceptibility card for susceptibility testing of Candida species and Cryptococcus neoformans. The VITEK 2 ASTYS07 card includes a sixth antifungal agent, micafungin, providing a valuable enhancement to antifungal susceptibility testing.

Innovation in cell culture

Corning has introduced the FloWell 2W plate, a multiple-well plate designed with continuous fluid perfusion technology for the controlled, directional feeding of cells for up to 72 hours. This latest innovation is an ideal automatic cell-feeding device for culturing cells that require frequent medium changes and weekend feedings.

Automated immunoassay system

bioMérieux has launched the VIDAS 3 automated immunoassay system, which is designed to help healthcare professionals meet the new challenges of a rapidly changing regulatory and economic environment.

Filtration and contamination control equipment

The new Safestore vented chemical storage cabinets from Air Science are ideal for storage of noxious or odorous chemicals. The cabinets minimise health and environmental risks in handling chemical vapours and residues, and general laboratory functions.

Review rates, processes and classification in haematology

Delivering on its commitment to advance and optimise clinical diagnostic laboratories, Beckman Coulter has launched a new benchtop haematology analyser for mid- to high-volume laboratories. Building on the company’s proven cellular analysis technology, Beckman Coulter’s UniCel DxH 600 Coulter cellular analysis system provides laboratories with exceptional quality results, improved first-pass accuracy and automatic rerun and reflex testing, thereby reducing overall manual review rates and processes.

Identification and label verification software

Cognex has announced a new version of the In-Sight Track & Trace identification and data verification solution for healthcare serialisation. A follow-up to successful deployments of In-Sight Track & Trace 1.0, this version includes enhancements that address additional requirements to achieve unit-level product traceability.

In vitro molecular diagnostic test for CT/NG

Molecular diagnostics company Cepheid helped to bring together prominent scientists and clinicians from across the UK at the recent British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) Spring Meeting, where the latest healthcare trends and scientific breakthroughs in this important field were discussed.

Automated and programmable microtomy

Building on the success and principles of SMART Automation, Sakura Finetek has introduced the next step in total laboratory automation to the histopathology laboratories with the launch of the Tissue-Tek AutoSection Automated Microtome.

Combating multidrug-resistent bacteria

BioCote, the antimicrobial solutions provider, has demonstrated that its antimicrobial technology can eliminate over 99.9% of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP). Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) is a family of bacteria that, over the past decade, have caused increasing problems in healthcare environments. Most commonly, CRE-related infections occur among individuals who are hospitalised, critically ill or who require invasive devices such as ventilators as part of their healthcare. They are dangerous because they are resistant to the carbapenem antibiotics, which are recognised as being among the most powerful antibiotics available.

Point-of-care HbA1c testing

Menarini Diagnostics has been a market leader in HbA1c analysis in the UK for over 25 years, and has now announced the latest addition to its family of analysers, the B-analyst, a point-of-care (POC) analyser. B-analyst uses a special cartridge and the latest state-of-the-art technology to give high accuracy and excellent precision, providing laboratory standard results in the POC setting.
