On behalf of the biomedical science profession, the IBMS has submitted its response to the change.NHS Consultation, shaping the 10-Year Health Plan.
In a statement on its website, the IBMS said: “This response reflects the collective expertise of our members and emphasises the critical role of pathology and diagnostic laboratory services in delivering high-quality patient care.
“Informed by our members' experiences and challenges, the IBMS response highlights the importance of investing in diagnostic innovation, workforce development, and integrated healthcare solutions to build a more resilient and equitable NHS. We underline how advancing the biomedical science profession and expanding diagnostic capacity can address growing healthcare demands and improve outcomes for patients across the UK.
“This document underscores our commitment to advocating for the biomedical science workforce's pivotal role in healthcare transformation.”

The change.NHS consultation has been open for a month, with 60,000 people completing the initial survey and over a thousand organisations registered to submit a response by 2 December. Public events are also being hosted and will continue into next year.
Online events for NHS workers are also taking place, with over 4,000 staff registered for these 15 events over the next few weeks. Early in 2025 there will be all-day deliberative events with staff too.
