New partnership to drive innovation in diagnostics and patient care

BioMérieux, a world leader in the field of in vitro diagnostics, has announced its first Data & IT Centre of Reference partnership with St James's Hospital, Ireland. This landmark collaboration was celebrated with a hybrid event held at the Davis Coakley Lecture Theatre, St James's Hospital, Dublin on 14th November, marking a historic milestone for bioMérieux.

The Centre of Reference partnership embodies a shared commitment to innovation in microbiology diagnostics and patient care. By leveraging cutting-edge data and IT services, the initiative aims to streamline processes, enhance diagnostic accuracy, and ultimately improve patient outcomes by supporting the sepsis management pathway and antimicrobial stewardship programmes.

The event celebrated this partnership but also served as a platform for local healthcare professionals to exchange insights on overcoming laboratory challenges to improve patient care.

St James's Hospital will act as the inaugural reference site, whose aim is to demonstrate the benefits of integrating advanced data management and IT services into the microbiology laboratory. The partnership is expected to generate valuable real-world medical and economic data, establishing best practices that can be adopted globally to advance the field of diagnostics.

Dr Niamh Leonard, Clinical Director, Laboratory Medicine, St James’s Hospital, said: “We are excited to be chosen as the reference centre for this global partnership. This selection reflects the dedication and expertise of our microbiology team, whose commitment to excellence continues to drive innovation and improve patient care here at St James’s Hospital.

"We look forward to collaborating with bioMérieux over the next two years as we continue on our shared journey of improving microbiology diagnostics.”

Jennifer Zinn, bioMérieux Executive Vice President of Clinical Operations, added: “On behalf of bioMérieux, we are thrilled to launch this first-of-its-kind Center of Reference (COR) global partnership with St. James’s Hospital. We are confident that this collaborative endeavour, designed to elevate clinical diagnostics and enhance real-time patient management, will deliver tangible evidence-based results showing how advanced Data & IT solutions can be a true game changer for clinicians and the patients they serve.

"Together, our teams will work to identify scalable best practices for leveraging Data & IT across the continuum of healthcare and in support of future COR sites.”
