Launch of Healthcare Science Associate apprenticeship in Sunderland

With increasing demands on NHS pathology services and drive for greater quality patient care, in line with the NHS Long Term Plan, the need for effective training of laboratory staff has never been greater. Following the longstanding success of its Biomedical and Applied Biomedical Science programmes, the University of Sunderland is expanding its provision of bespoke training to meet future pathology workforce needs.

The university is launching its Level 4 Healthcare Science Associate apprenticeship this September and welcomes applications until 31 August 2023. This programme combines online teaching and short on-campus practical blocks, with new innovative technologies, such as simulation and VR. It is designed with employers, to minimise time out of the laboratory and enable individuals to progress their future careers.

On completion of the apprenticeship, learners will have the skills and knowledge preparing them for a Band 4 Healthcare Science Associate role and entry to the Level 6 Healthcare Science Practitioner degree apprenticeship that can lead to an IBMS Registration Portfolio and entry to the biomedical scientist workforce.
