SHOT to host patient identification webinars

Serious Hazards of Transfusion (SHOT) has announced details of two new webinars to focus on patient identification for safe transfusion.

‘Positive patient identification for safe transfusions in adults’ will take place on Tuesday 11 July and will contain a 40-minute presentation about positive patient identification - including case-based presentations by SHOT experts including: wrong blood in tube errors, PPID from a patient perspective, laboratory aspects, common themes, lessons learnt and resources available. There will also be a section looking at the patient's perspective, featuring a patient representative.

‘Accurate and complete patient identification for safe transfusions in children’ will follow the next week, on Wednesday 19 July. This webinar will highlight the importance of accurate and complete patient identification for safe transfusions in neonates and children and will include some illustrative cases to highlight key learning points and will consider potential solutions available to improve patient identification. There will also be an opportunity to hear views from a patient and a parent.

Each webinar is free to access and will feature an interactive Q&A session. Both events will be relevant for healthcare professionals involved in transfusion - nursing staff, laboratory staff, clinicians, transfusion practitioners, as well as haemovigilance and risk-management specialists.
