The Power to Disrupt: point-of-care testing in the modern NHS

The latest in Thornhill Healthcare Events’ series of conferences on point-of-care testing took place at the end of March in Nottingham. Once again a wide variety of speakers had been gathered to share their experiences of using near-patient diagnostics within the modern NHS with an engaged audience made up of healthcare professionals from across the health service. Pathology in Practice reports on the day’s presentations.

As with previous such events, it was a sizeable and engaged audience representing not just pathology but a variety of job roles across the health service which gathered for this day-long conference. Entitled ‘The Power to Disrupt’, this time the venue was Nottingham – delivering on the stated aim to take Thornhill Healthcare’s POCT events further afield. The futuristic-looking Jubilee Hotel and Conferences was the venue, nestled in amongst science-based educational buildings on the city-centre Jubilee campus of the University of Nottingham. As well as a day of varied presentations, 28 trade exhibitors were welcomed, with the day structured to allow plenty of time for delegates to browse the technology on show.

Thornhill Healthcare managing director and Lead Biomedical Scientist Tony Cambridge had this to say of the event: “It was my pleasure to be able to provide another healthcare event focussed on rapid diagnostics and POCT. The success of these events has grown year on year, this being the sixth face-to-face event I have produced. I’m committed to providing exceptional value and continue to offer the events free to NHS staff and truly affordable for the commercial sector.

“Healthcare workers do not always get the opportunity to attend these events, but when they do they need to know the content is appropriate, engaging and motivational. All of the feedback I’ve received has been extremely positive which motivates me to continue designing and delivering high value content, committing to two events per year focussing on diagnostics.”
