Enhancing workflow optimisation at Liverpool Clinical Laboratories

With laboratories turning to technology and automation to meet the challenges of rising workloads and shrinking budgets, equipment supplier BD has recently created its Integrated Diagnostic Solutions (IDS) division, which has consolidated the firm’s workflow optimisation services. Here, BD Professional Services explains how this is being achieved and the laboratory staff at Liverpool Clinical Laboratories share their experiences.

As healthcare systems continues to evolve into a patient-centric and value-based system, providers face balancing these priorities with a list of additional demands and operational challenges. In the clinical microbiology laboratory, burdens of consolidation, shrinking budgets and increased workload threaten long-term stability and ability to provide high-quality, accessible services. Many laboratories are turning to technology and automation to help achieve their goals of providing quality services, reducing expenses and overall costs. However, investing in technology and automation alone does not guarantee that a clinical laboratory will realise the improvement goals they seek. Instead, there is a much larger optimisation equation to consider, one in which the laboratory staff play the crucial role.

BD offers a suite of professional services to address the needs of customers for measurable improvements in the laboratory and beyond. Following the creation of Integrated Diagnostic Solutions (IDS) division, we have consolidated our broad range of services to support the optimisation of workflows and the implementation of best practices from specimen collection to result reporting. Our range of services covers the three phases of the diagnostic continuum (preanalytical, analytical and postanalytical) and it is designed to support improvement in diagnostic accuracy and timelines.
