Linkam Scientific Instruments marks 40th anniversary in new UK premises

Linkam Scientific Instruments has opened the doors at its new UK premises in Redhill, Surrey, UK, on the occasion of its 40th anniversary in temperature-controlled microscopy.

The move stems from the company’s unprecedented growth in recent years, particularly in custom-designed solutions to support scientific research in precision temperature- and humidity-controlled environments. Now celebrating its 40th year, Linkam has gone from strength to strength, not only with the new site expansion, but also by growing its team with two new hires in its sales and marketing department and human resources.

The premises features a state-of-the-art, interactive demonstration suite where customers and prospective customers can get hands on with the product range, to experience the possibilities of the advanced technology in model experiments.

The new site consolidates the entire Linkam production function, including raw materials, inventory, machine tooling and manufacturing, facilitating cross-functional team working, improving collaboration across the business and delivering significant productivity gains. As part of the expansion and to meet growing customer demand, Linkam has also ramped up the team across all areas of the business.

To boost the business development drive, Clara Ko joins as sales and marketing manager. Clara has a BSc in Biology and an MBA from the University of London and has worked for a variety of multi-national scientific companies in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America. She has also worked for leading microscopy and spectroscopy companies in bioscience, chemical analysis, and material science, especially in X-ray fluorescence, ICP/Optical emission, and thermal analysis. Clara will be heading up the sales and marketing team and aims to step up the services Linkam provides to customers and distributors worldwide. An applications scientist will soon be joining the team to improve Linkam’s technical and application capabilities and further improve customer support.

A new dedicated human resources function has been created to support talent acquisition and retention in the team. From a background in talent management in manufacturing, construction and finance, Julie Warner will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the HR activities with a focus on recruitment and development. Julie will also be driving an employee engagement programme to support future business growth in the new headquarters.

Ross Browne, Managing Director at Linkam commented: “Sustained business growth in recent years has taken our business to the next phase in its development. We have been successfully supporting researchers in the materials science and life science sectors for 40 years and are proud to mark this major milestone with our new state-of-the-art premises, located five miles from Gatwick International Airport. We now have a site that offers an improved customer experience, showcases our innovative scientific instrument range, and brings together our whole UK team in a modern and efficient working environment – while offering space to expand in the future as we continue to develop our technology and our team.”

Linkam was founded in 1982 by Arnold and Louise Kamp and the company designs and manufactures temperature and environmental control stages, electronics, and software that can be used in conjunction with light microscopes and a wide range of analytical techniques, including Raman, FTIR, SAXS-WAXS and other X-ray techniques, to enable scientists to analyse and characterise samples. The company’s progression over the last 40 years, from its foundations in Arnold’s garage to the new premises represents the Linkam team’s dedication and passion for its instruments. With additional R&D operations in the Netherlands, Linkam has built a strong reputation as an innovator and market leader in temperature-controlled microscopy, supplying unique products designed to advance scientific discovery.
