Whole-slide scanning systems licensed for use in Canada

Motic, a leading provider of digital pathology solutions, has announced that the MoticEasyScan product line of whole-slide scanners obtained a Health Canada Class II Medical Device Licence.

MoticEasyScan systems are now certified for clinical use in Canada, introducing, for the first time, high-quality and affordable solutions to facilitate digital pathology adoption in Canada. Health Canada Class II certification will enable pathologists in Canada to use the MoticEasyScan scanners and software as diagnostic tools to scan, share and use whole-slide images for primary diagnosis.

The MoticEasyScan solutions address one of the largest remaining barriers for entry into the digital pathology workflow: cost of ownership. Digital pathology is widely acknowledged as an essential technology to improve patient care, reduce diagnosis time, and to support pathologists with flexible and easy access to the tools required to improve healthcare outcomes.

Stakeholders, hospitals and their partners have struggled to accommodate what can be an overwhelming cost to implement a digital pathology solution. Given the historically high cost of whole-slide scanning systems, initiatives to implement the technology are challenged by lengthy in-depth analysis projects to support the business case and investment in the technology.

With Health Canada approval, MoticEasyScan whole-slide scanners can now provide a cost-effective pathway to support these efforts from the initial business case validation through to the implementation and long-term adoption while also providing a pathway for future expansion.

Motic is changing the digital pathology landscape by focusing on affordability and streamlining adoption so that stakeholders can start realising the benefits of digital work immediately choosing from solutions providing single-slide scanning through to high-volume slide scanning capabilities.
