Stago UK recently hosted a webinar on ‘Coagulation alterations and management of patients with COVID-19 infection’. The presenter, Professor Armando D’Angelo, has been involved in the management of COVID-19 patients in Italy’s Lombardy region, one of the worst affected areas in the world. As SARS-CoV-2 infection continues to spread worldwide, it appears that patients with COVID-19 acute respiratory distress syndrome exhibit a procoagulant profile. In conjunction with the exaggerated host immune response, this translates into thrombotic disorders such as pulmonary embolism and/or disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). Therefore, the haemostasis laboratory has a crucial role to play in the management of COVID-19 patients.
During this webinar, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the changes induced by SARS-CoV-2 infection on haemostasis parameters and how the laboratory can help interpret COVID-19 patients’ coagulation profile for a safe and effective contribution to their care.
Professor D’Angelo is Director of the Coagulation Service and Thrombosis Research Unit of the Scientific Institute San Raffaele of Milano, and has held executive positions at both national and international levels (IFCC, FCSA, SISET). Professor D’Angelo has taken part in over 20 trials on new anticoagulant drugs, co-authored over 280 papers in indexed journals, and currently serves as an expert reviewer for over 30 such journals.
