In September, the biennial Congress will return to the International Convention Centre in Birmingham. While the main focus is on the comprehensive multidisciplinary lecture programme, workshop sessions also provide delegates with an invaluable opportunity to discuss cellular pathology and cytopathology cases with the experts.
With time and resources for training at a premium, it can be very difficult for staff, other than those preparing for registration or to sit their Specialist Diploma examination, to have the opportunity for some practical training. While it would not be feasible to have practical elements for all disciplines at Congress, the IBMS is certainly repeating the success of its cytopathology microscopy workshops, and this year will add to this with a cellular pathology microscopy workshop.

Changes in the delivery of the cervical screening programme mean that many cytologists are rethinking their career options, and having a greater level of responsibility for the non-gynaecological cytology workload is an obvious choice.
