Forward-thinking software and instrumentation transform NHS pathology services

The need to share, analyse and compare data across numerous laboratories is becoming more relevant as plans for larger NHS pathology networks unfold. Here, North West London Pathology and Stago illustrate how this can be facilitated.

Transformative is the word that springs to mind when considering the ambitious plan by Professor Tim Evans, NHS England’s National Director for Clinical Productivity, to create 29 larger pathology networks from the existing 105 individual services. It is also the word that describes the unique way that Stago integrates instrument design with software creation to deliver NHS coagulation solutions. “Stago systems are designed to help laboratory customers manage quality, while improving patient outcomes,” stresses the company’s sales and marketing manager Gillian Eyre.

A fundamental part of this is the method of sample processing and the clear way Stago presents patient data. Kurtis Lee, the lead biomedical scientist for coagulation at North West London Pathology, singles out Stago’s “forward thinking validation tools” which “were vital to completing the validation on time” and replaced what previously would have been “time-consuming and exacting tasks” for laboratory staff.
