Rapid Diagnostics – Time is Relative: a BSMT conference

The British Society for Microbial Technology (BSMT) is offering an excellent programme for its annual scientific conference, to be held on Friday, 18 May 2018 in London. This year, the focus of the meeting will be on Rapid Diagnostics – Time is Relative. While aimed at bench microbiologists, the conference is relevant for senior biomedical and clinical scientists, other scientists and medical microbiologists.

Following an Introduction from Professor Eric Bolton, President of the BSMT, the morning presentations will include Dr Mike Weinbren talking about Optimising the recovery of bacteria from blood cultures; Dr Bridget Atkins looking at Device-related orthopaedic infections and the potential place of  new technologies; Dr Stephanie Dancer on Tracking Staphylococcus aureus around the intensive care unit; and Dr Gemma Clark will talk about Increased efficiency to meet winter demands for rapid detection of respiratory viruses

In the afternoon, Professor Eric Bolton will talk about Molecular diagnostics for enteric infections – relevance for clinical diagnosis and public health; Dr Justin O’Grady will discuss Rapid metagenomic diagnosis of hospital-acquired pneumonia; and finally Dr Vanya Gant will consider Rapid diagnostics, bad bugs and antibiotics: not that easy.
