The Biomedical Science Congress scientific programme once again provided a compelling reason to attend the twelfth biennial event, held last autumn at the ICC in Birmingham. Here, Pathology in Practice takes a brief look at some content highlights.
The Biomedical Science Congress organised by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) is the biggest multi-disciplinary meeting and learning event for biomedical scientists in the UK, delivering a comprehensive programme where scientists can learn from leading experts across all the disciplines in laboratory medicine and then share the knowledge gained with colleagues back in the laboratory.
The 2017 IBMS Congress, the twelfth in the series which began in 1995, surpassed itself by the addition of an extra day with extra lecture content. Opening its doors for the first time on a Sunday, Congress last year started with popular programmes in Education & Management and Quality Management, as well as a Cytopathology Microscopy Workshop. Furthermore, to ensure that biomedical scientists are equipped to take on the expanding repertoire of molecular pathology tests, the afternoon programme also introduced a new Molecular Pathology programme.
In making the Biomedical Science Congress programme relevant and accessible, the IBMS made it the best learning experience possible, providing a concentrated learning opportunity that was of high quality and relevant to all. Delegates who attended heard the views, thoughts and opinions of the best in their field, and undeniably left with a clearer understanding of what is happening in pathology and an enhanced ability to manage their services and careers effectively.
