Expanded IVD portfolio for near-patient testing

Philips recently announced the expansion of its IVD portfolio at EuroMedLab 2017 as part of the drive to deliver on-the-spot testing for critical care patients. Marcel van Kasteel, CEO Philips Handheld Diagnostics, explained that laboratory managers were getting closer to clinical leads and cardiologists in understanding ways of collaborating to resolve unmet needs, especially around crowding and workflow in the emergency department (ED).

Philips message is to develop solutions ‘ready where you are’, enabling better care with near-patient testing. The innovative Minicare I-20 handheld immunoassay device was launched last year with its first assay, cardiac troponin-I. This is already being used in Europe as a rapid aid in the diagnosis of patients presenting in the ED with suspected myocardial infarction.  It delivers laboratory comparable results in 10 minutes, right by the patient. Its integrated calibration and failsafe functionalities ensure the robustness and accuracy needed for confident, on-the-spot decision-making for better outcomes.

The expanded Minicare portfolio now includes Minicare BNP assay to aid in the diagnosis of heart failure; Minicare H-300 point-of-care thromboelastrography system to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of coagulation abnormalities; and Minicare C-300 clinical chemistry system with an extensive range of chemistry parameters, delivering results in 15 minutes.
