Microbe: an organism still viable and reproducing

The success enjoyed by the biennial Microbe conferences spans almost three decades, and the 14th event returns to Sheffield later in September. Alan Pease reports.

Another conference in the Microbe series is being organised by the Sheffield branch of the Institute of Biomedical Science. The conference, to be held at the Hilton Hotel, on 23–25 September is the 14th biennial event in the hugely successful Microbe series.

Microbe 2016 will follow the tried and tested route, but as usual will incorporate a little tweaking and originality. The organising group members consider themselves fortunate to be able to continue working in such an enthusiastic and professional manner with each other, despite such different ages and divergent experiences and backgrounds.

A common tie is that at different times each was a practising biomedical scientist employed in microbiology in South Yorkshire or North Derbyshire. The tie nowadays is that they all enjoy welcoming visitors to the Microbe conference, and offering Sheffield enthusiasm and hospitality.
