The next phase in the development of innovative laboratory technologies is in progress and will be highlighted next year with the return of SmartLAB to Hanover.
The SmartLAB success story continues. Last year, the special display ‘SmartLAB – the intelligent lab of the future’ proved extremely popular with visitors at the LABVOLUTION laboratory technology event in Hanover, Germany. This year saw the launch of the SmartLAB Innovation Network. Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as part of its Central Innovation Programme for SMEs, the network is dedicated to developing and standardising innovative laboratory technologies. Many of the partner companies from science and industry involved in SmartLAB were founding members of the SmartLAB Innovation Network.
Visionary prototype
The SmartLAB display will once again be an integral part of the next event to be staged on 16–18 May 2017. Using a visionary prototype laboratory, the special SmartLAB display is designed to show how laboratory life will change in the age of digitalisation. "The positive results have enabled us to join forces with almost all our current partners and a number of new partners in order to initiate this innovation network for the laboratory of the future," said Dr Sascha Beutel, member of staff at the Institute of Technical Chemistry at Leibniz University in Hannover, and spokesperson for the SmartLAB initiative. "We can now quickly and easily apply for defined projects of individual nature, which means that numerous innovations will have been developed by LABVOLUTION 2017."
