Ceftaroline AST discs and CLSI and EUCAST

Ceftaroline (Zinforo), manufactured by AstraZeneca, is a novel cephalosporin used in the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections. It has also been used successfully in the treatment of complicated skin infections.

Clinical breakpoint methodologies for ceftaroline have been published by the CLSI and EUCAST. The CLSI guidelines have recommended a ceftaroline 30µg (CPT30C) disc content and EUCAST has opted for a ceftaroline 5 µg disc content (CPT5C). Mast supplies both ceftaroline 30 µg and ceftaroline 5 µg in its AST stock range under the product codes CPT30C and CPT5C. Mast constantly reviews its portfolio of mastdiscs AST and continues to be at the forefront of the development of new antimicrobial discs as a major strategic partner for pharmaceutical companies. Mast recently launched ceftolozone/tazobactam 30 µg/10 µg discs (C/T40C). This is used for the AST determination of Zerbaxa (Merck, MSD) and may be used as an alternative to the carbapenem group in the treatment of ESBL-producing organisms. [email protected]
