A collaborative, long-term approach to the innovative delivery of operational savings has paid dividends for Beckman Coulter and a flagship European medical complex.
Representatives fro laboratories in the UK have been visiting the University Medical Center in Utrecht (UMCU), The Netherlands, to view one of the most complex and innovative European laboratory automation configurations. At the same time, they see first hand how Beckman Coulter operates as a long-term managed service partner.
Utrecht’s challenge mirrors that of NHS hospital laboratories as they tackle the trend towards workflow improvements, demand for the most modern instruments, and centralisation of core laboratory resources – Utrecht in its current configuration is an amalgamation of three hospitals. All this must be achieved while operating within procurement’s ever tighter budget parameters.
The University Medical Center in Utrecht became Holland’s first academic hospital to install Beckman Coulter total automation and the company has now worked with the laboratory since 2006 to expand and enhance its service. Utrecht shares the values of its chosen diagnostic partner, with both dedicated to improving patient outcomes and moving the interests of the laboratory forward.
Utrecht is renowned for its clinical care and academic research. It places great emphasis on innovation and fosters a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach with its clinicians, researchers and partners. The laboratory required a diagnostics partner able to maintain the excellence of its professional standing with hospital managers and clinicians, by offering continuous workflow improvement.
