Molecular diagnostics: introducing a new company to the United Kingdom

Vela Diagnostics, new to the UK, offers a flexible approach to various same-day testing demands without the need for complex laboratory systems. Richard Pallin explains.

Vela Diagnostics is a worldwide provider of innovative and integrated molecular diagnostic systems and assays. The company was launched in 2009 and already offers 20 molecular diagnostic test kits based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology. The new product pipeline also includes the use of next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based products for launch in 2014. Using the automated Sentosa SX101 workflow, Vela can offer laboratories increased efficiency, quicker results and cost reduction for molecular-based services.

The company is globally headquartered in Singapore, where assay research, development and production take place. Commercial operations and support for Europe are covered from the Hamburg office. The company also has commercial offices in the USA, Italy, Australia and Malaysia.

Commercial operations have recently begun in the UK, with a small, experienced, locally based team operating under the organisation of the Hamburg office. The UK team is focused on providing and supporting the Vela product range throughout the UK and Ireland directly with customers, rather than through distribution partners. The UK team plans to expand further during 2014 to provide a truly ‘best in class’ local commercial and customer support resource.
