EKF Diagnostics, a manufacturer of point-of-care (POC) diagnostic tools, recently exhibited its range of products for diabetes and ketosis testing at Arab Health 2013. On display were the Quo-Test and Quo-Lab glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) analysers for near-patient measurement and monitoring of diabetes.
Monitoring HbA1c level is being used increasingly in the detection and management of diabetes, and both these analysers are accurate, affordable and easy to use, requiring just 4 µL venous or fingerprick blood to deliver accurate results within four minutes.
The company also previewed its first strip-based ketone analyser, the STAT-Site M bHB, which uses measurements of b-hydroxybutyrate, the main ketone produced during ketosis, to provide a quantitative and accurate assessment of patients displaying symptoms of ketosis. The technology is changing the way hospitals test for diabetic ketoacidosis and enables testing to move from the laboratory into the accident and emergency department.
