The two-day VBMPS congress, to be held at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on 15-16 October, aims to highlight the link between human and animal health, focusing on the study, diagnosis and treatment of animal diseases. Concurrent sessions will be held in Cellular Pathology, Haematology/Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology/Infection and Pharma Science, and delegates may attend any presentation in any of the streams
Biomedical science is commonly associated with human medicine, but only a minority of graduates from university biomedical science courses move on to work in the NHS. Many can be found in veterinary school laboratories, government veterinary diagnostic laboratories, the pharmaceutical industry, commercial veterinary diagnostic laboratories, and in research establishments.
To date, the opportunity for people in those fields to come together to meet and discuss topics of common interest has not existed; however, the Veterinary Biomedical & Pharma Sciences (VBMPS) congress, scheduled to take place at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham on 15–16 October, aims to fill that gap.
Mirroring the successful format of the IBMS Biomedical Science Congress, the two-day VBMPS event will include plenary sessions and four parallel sessions. The plenary sessions will be on the theme of ‘Two Worlds, One Health’, recognising the intrinsic link between the health of humans and animals.
