The Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH), Winchester, has six Radiometer blood gas analysers, including 810, 820, 825M and 835M systems, and relies on the company’s QA Portal to help meet EQA requirements and simplify regulatory compliance.
Colin Dickens, biochemistry department manager at RHCH, explained: “All the blood gas analysers are connected using the RADIANCE system, which provides 24-hour monitoring to ensure our instruments are operating correctly, and, as part of our quality assurance, we also use Radiometer’s QA Portal to monitor the alignment of the instruments.
“The QA Portal’s worldwide DATACHECK gives us confidence that our analysers are aligned among themselves and among their peers, by allowing us to compare our QA data with that of other laboratories worldwide. This enables early detection of any subtle changes that may occur, giving our users peace of mind and providing reassurance that our analysers are performing correctly.
As a Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA) peer assessor, I recognise the importance of satisfying CPA Standard F3.5 (The laboratory shall have a mechanism for ensuring that examinations performed using different procedures or equipment… give comparable results). Radiometer’s QA Portal reports provide the information to allow this to be demonstrated.”
