The National Society of Histotechnology (NSH) meeting is the largest such event in the world, and this year it was held in Washington DC at the end of August. This year’s meeting was remarkable in that it saw two British histopathology biomedical scientists acknowledged for their individual contributions to the discipline.
Dr Guy Orchard (Laboratory Manager, St John's Dermatopathology, St Thomas' Hospital, London) received The Leica Leadership Award for Teaching, which reflects his contribution to teaching histology at both the national and international level and also his prolific scientific publications. Guy attended the meeting to run, with Mohammad Shams, a workshop on ‘The A to Z of Mohs Histological Procedures’.
Dr Neil Hand, a member of the NSH Hard Tissue Group, from Nottingham (now retired), received The Anne Preece Award and Scholarship, sponsored by Polysciences. It is awarded “to a qualified applicant who has excelled in working with calcified/decalcified bone, other materials such as stents in vascular research or bioengineering development. The specimens can be human or animal in origin.”
