The Biomedical Science Congress is now less than 10 months away. More than just a scientific meeting, this complete experience clearly demonstrates the vital importance of the symbiotic relationship between the commercial sector and the profession it supports.
The past two decades have witnessed much change in laboratory medicine and in the profession body that supports those who work in the field. The 1990s saw the end of the Triennial meeting format and the birth of the biennial Congress and its association with the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham. In the intervening years, Congress has become the flagship IBMS event and continues to demonstrate what working together can achieve.
Congress exhibition
The Congress exhibition plays a vital role in the total experience, as it combines business, networking and social exchange. As the exhibition comprises the free circulation area of the event, naturally it is the place where delegates view the latest equipment, discuss methodologies and generally enhance their knowledge of what is available commercially. It is also the place to take coffee breaks, lunch and generally discuss the issues of the day with friends, colleagues and peers.
Clearly, delegates appreciate the exhibition as it enables them to view new equipment and products, extend general awareness of techniques and technologies, and make contact with representatives of the exhibiting companies. Space was made available to commercial companies at the end of June, firstly to IBMS Company Members (as a benefit of their membership) and then later to other suppliers in the market. Currently, virtually all the allocated space has been reserved. Once again, the exhibitor list reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of the very best companies in the diagnostics arena.
Equally important is the fact that the Congress exhibition is also open to visitors, who can take advantage of all the amenities and access the vast body of expertise that the exhibition represents. More than the sum of its parts, the exhibition covers Halls 3 and 4 and also extends out into the registration area, balcony areas and corridors. In summary, if it’s out there, it’s in here!
