Local children in Salisbury have put their artistic talents to the test by designing eye-catching artwork to highlight the alcohol gel dispensers at entrances to wards and departments at Salisbury District Hospital. Regular hand washing and the use of alcohol gels represent the first line of defence against infections, and patients, visitors and staff must use them when entering and leaving clinical areas.
This special opportunity helped to raise public awareness about good hand hygiene while people are in hospital, and also gave children the chance to get involved in a worthwhile and creative project.
Ian Robinson, general manager in facilities, said: “Although we already have low infection rates at Salisbury District Hospital, it is important that we continue to look carefully at what we do and make any improvements that we feel are necessary. Alcohol gels have an essential role to play in protecting patients and these are available at the entrances to wards and departments. We already had bright yellow backboards for the dispensers, but wanted to use children’s skills to create more eye-catching designs that draw attention to the gels and their significance to the healthcare environment.”
