Recently, Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham commissioned the installation of two Elga Process Water Medica PRO RE120 water purification units in its biochemistry laboratory. The Elga Process Water MEDICA Pro range includes four models that deliver up to four litres/min of high-purity water to individual or multiple clinical analysers in alternative configurations depending on whether the analysers require a pressurised or non-pressurised supply.
Inside the MEDICA Pro’s compact cabinet, mains water is pretreated by a Protek cartridge containing high-capacity adsorbant to remove chlorine and chloramines, followed by a high-flux reverse osmosis membrane that rejects 90% of dissolved salts and over 99% of organic and particulate contaminants. A degassing E cartridge removes dissolved carbon dioxide to extend the life of the downstream Medpure deionisation cartridge. After deionisation, a UV lamp provides disinfection and photo-oxidation of residual trace organics, and final 0.05 µm ultramicrofiltration ensures microbiological purity.
The treatment cartridges are easily replaced using quick-fit connections and all cartridges are fully traceable for validation. Furthermore, the MEDICA Pro units are supported by a national network of field service engineers trained and focused on support for critical healthcare applications.
