The fifth edition of Serum Free Light Chain Analysis (plus Hevylite), written by Professor A R Bradwell, includes new information on renal applications of serum free light chain (FLC) assays, new case studies and an introduction to the new Hevylite assays that are due to be launched later this year.
New renal disease applications include the rapid identification of those myeloma patients at risk from renal failure, plus a new therapeutic intervention using a protein-leaking dialysis filter to remove serum FLCs, which, early evidence shows, can help many patients with myeloma kidney to become independent of kidney dialysis.
Hevylite is a new range of assays for quantification of immunoglobulin heavy chain/light chain pairs (eg IgG/kappa and IgG/lambda), which is likely to change the testing of monoclonal immunoglobulins when launched later in the year. There are new reports and updates on current applications of Freelite serum FLC for diagnosis, monitoring and prognosis of a wide range of plasma cell dyscrasias, including multiple myeloma (MM) and AL amyloidosis.
An accompanying CD contains a 10-slide introductory seminar (plus a version with a voiceover), a 40-slide PowerPoint presentation and notes, all the figures and tables, and a pdf of the complete book.
