Digital dictation at University Hospitals of Leicester

SRC, the UK’s leading provider of healthcare digital dictation and speech recognition solutions, has introduced the WinScribe digital dictation system to 800 users at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL). The deployment is central to the trust's plans to cut waiting times and improve document turnaround times and is the first major contract under the East Midlands resource hub digital dictation framework agreement with SRC.

The SRC WinScribe solution represents a dramatic improvement on the current tape-based system and will process and route all the trust’s dictations between authors and secretaries and corresponding transcriptions back to authors. Using advanced workflow management tools, which will be deployed by SRC’s experienced team, critical dictations containing vital patient information will be prioritised and securely distributed automatically to the relevant secretaries. Users will also access the simple and intuitive WinScribe interface to quickly and easily find dictations, identify priority work and manage their time more effectively.

The solution also employs the SRC NotifyMe software module. This latest in a range of SRC software modules has been tailored to NHS requirements and enables doctors to be notified rapidly, via email or SMS messaging, that urgent dictations have been transcribed and are ready for checking. This will enhance and accelerate the review and approval cycles, further streamlining the overall document creation process.
