Labcold supplies refrigeration for oncology institute

The new Institute of Oncology at St James’s University Hospital, Leeds, has been equipped with refrigerators and freezers worth over £250,000 by Labcold, the specialist manufacturer of professional medical, scientific and laboratory refrigeration equipment.

Labcold was chosen as the sole supplier for all 276 refrigeration units, including blood banks, pharmacy refrigerators, plasma freezers and ward refrigerators, for the Catalyst Healthcare PFIfunded unit, which was opened formally by HRH The Princess Royal in July. The unit is one of the largest specialist cancer treatment centres in Europe with 1600 staff and 350 in-patient beds. For Labcold, the order is the latest in a series of major hospital project wins, all resulting from the company’s long-established reputation in supplying the NHS.

Michelle Rogers, Labcold sales manager, said: “We were chosen as partners on this project for a number of reasons including our ability to supply a complete range, plus our extensive experience working with major hospital and PFI developments. Being a supply partner on these major projects means that we get involved early on, providing advice on product selection and specification, while pre- or post-installation we provide calibration, validation and temperature mapping, and then in the long-term a maintenance contract.”
