Borders General Hospital installs UniCel DxC880i systems

Beckman Coulter has announced that the Borders General Hospital has installed Scotland’s first UniCel DxC 880i Synchron Access clinical system, its integrated work cell designed to consolidate chemistry and immunoassay testing in high-volume laboratories.

The laboratory has been completely redesigned – in order to accommodate two DxC 880i systems – as part of a major workflow analysis project. Its objective is to automate and streamline processes, and to reduce the time biomedical scientist staff spend handling samples. The DxC 880i systems each combine a UniCel DxC 800 chemistry analyser (capable of running up to 1400 tests per hour) and the high-throughput immunoassay system, the UniCel DxI 800 (capable of running up to 400 tests per hour).

Jag Grewal, marketing manager for Northern Europe, commented: “The DxC 880i advances our strategy of delivering standardised work-cell solutions for greater laboratory efficiency. With the Beckman Coulter system, it is possible to integrate the testing process by running different tests in parallel and to do this without removing sample caps and exposing the blood to contamination. Beckman Coulter is the only company to do this.”
