Mastercycler pro protects against evaporation in PCR techniques

This new high-end thermocycler builds on the functionalities of Eppendorf’s successful Mastercycler ep series, and includes Thermal Sample Protection (TSP), heated lid, highspeed heating and cooling, and the facility to upgrade to real-time PCR. However, the main innovation is protection against evaporation. Eppendorf has developed the vapo.protect fluid cushion lid for Mastercycler pro, which conforms to the exact shape of whichever PCR consumable is used. By forming a complete fit, the lid reduces mean evaporation to 0–3%, even in problematic corner and edge wells. This is dramatically lower than evaporation rates of 30–50% for corner and edge wells using other thermocyclers.

The versatile Mastercycler pro can be used as a standalone unit or as a mini-satellite system linked to one control panel, comprising up to five units in any combination of the three available block formats. In addition, for ultimate throughput, CycleManager pro software can be used to operate up to 30 units from any computer on a local network.
