Rapid dipstick test for MRSA

The kit utilises MRSA-specific DNA sequences in the staphylococcal cassette chromosome (SSCmec types 1–V) to enable direct detection without the need for time-consuming culture. Furthermore, a simple extraction procedure minimises hands-on time, and the methodology is scaleable, being suitable for one test or thousands of tests per day.

Each test strip incorporates both amplification and conjugate controls, improving user confidence in reporting the presence of MRSA from a patient specimen to a sensitivity of 10–15 colony-forming units. As no elaborate equipment is required, the test can be incorporated easily into the workload of a routine diagnostic laboratory.
