Reliable haematology analysis from Horiba ABX

Soon after installation of new Horiba ABX Pentra DX 120 and DF 120 haematology analysers at Bronglais District General Hospital in Aberystwyth, the reliability of these highthroughput analysers was highlighted. Following heavy snow in the largely rural catchment area supported by the hospital, many blood samples taken at remote surgeries took up to five days to reach the laboratory. However, despite these extended storage periods, automatic differentials were obtained on the new analysers.

This level of reliability was an added bonus for laboratory staff at the Ceredigion and Mid-Wales NHS Trust when they replaced their ageing haematology analysers. “Owing to Aberystwyth’s isolated location and an ever-increasing workload, we had to ensure that we had dependable analysers that would require minimal maintenance,” explained chief biomedical scientist Anita Worthing.

“We chose the ABX Pentra DX 120 (pictured, with Caroline Fitzpatrick and Franklin Chukwu) and DF 120 because of their reputation for reliability. On the rare occasions when we have had to contact the company since installation, Horiba ABX support and maintenance teams have been excellent, and any issues have been resolved remotely in most cases.”
