Alan Trinder retires from Olympus

Alan Trinder, general manager for Olympus Diagnostic Systems in the UK and Ireland, retired at the end of September. During his 18 years at Olympus, Alan was instrumental in the growth of the UK division through his extensive knowledge of the clinical chemistry market and laboratory medicine in the UK.

Piers Devereux, Olympus UK managing director, said “Alan has done an exceptional job of growing and developing Olympus’ diagnostic business in the UK, from its inception to the successful organisation it is today.” Alan commented: “One of the key factors that has enabled me to realise my goal of early retirement is the presence of a fully committed and professional team, and it is from that team that Steve Swanscott has been promoted to take over the role of general manager.”

Steve joined Olympus in January 2007 and assumed the position of general manager on 1 October, with Alan acting in a supportive role during the transition period until the end of February.

A more in-depth interview with Alan and Steve is planned for the next issue of Pathology in Practice.
