UK launch of integrated chemistry and immunoassay system

Recently, Beckman Coulter UK hosted a major customer event to mark the official UK launch of the UniCel DxC 880i Synchron Access clinical system, the latest member of the companyÆs integrated chemistry and immunoassay family of systems. The DxC 880i is equipped with a host of features including the UniCel CTA, which performs closed-tube aliquoting and closed-tube sampling.

These capabilities minimise biohazardous exposure and help to reduce the risk of injury to laboratory personnel. The DxC 880i features a combined menu of more than 150 tests, with 120 onboard, and allows reagents to be loaded while the system is running. With a throughput of up to 1440 chemistry and 400 immunoassay tests per hour, the DxC 880i is the ideal solution for higher-volume laboratories.

As Jag Grewal, marketing manager for northern Europe, explained: “The UniCel DxC 880i makes it possible for laboratories to perform parallel processing of chemistry and immunoassay testing, while retaining operating flexibility and improving laboratory safety and productivity.”

The key to the performance of the DxC 880i is the UniCel CTA, which serves as a single point of entry for the integrated system. The UniCel CTA accommodates multiple tube types and produces automatic aliquots. The primary tube is then routed through the DxC 800 and the aliquots are routed through the DxI 800. The UniCel CTA eliminates the need for the time-consuming task of manual decapping and recapping of tubes, saving hours of labour and reducing the risk of injury to personnel.
