Willie Burns appointed as new BIVDA president

The British In Vitro Diagnostics Association (BIVDA) announced the appointment of a new president, Mr William Burns, at the official opening of its new office.

Willie is retiring from Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics where he has been International Vice- President for the past six years. He has worked in the biotechnology and healthcare industries for the past 30 years and for 25 of these has specialised in the in vitro diagnostics sector.

Willie, a graduate of Queen’s University, Belfast, is a past member of the BIVDA Executive Committee and a former president of the European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association. Speaking of his appointment, Willie said: “ During my career in the IVD industry, I have seen many changes as technologies have advanced, and my wish as president of BIVDA is to establish the value of diagnostics and to ensure these advances benefit patients in the healthcare continuum.”

Current BIVDA chairman Jag Grewal commented: “BIVDA is delighted to welcome Willie Burns as president and to have such an experienced and dynamic individual to follow Brian Fishwick in this role. I look forward to working closely with Willie over the next few years.”

The opening of the new office, which includes a members resource centre, marks the 15th anniversary of BIVDA as the trade association for the UK IVD industry. Friends and associates from across healthcare, industry and the political arena attended the event.
