Patients Xpect more community care

A new range of rapid and simple diagnostic tests, available from Oxoid, will help healthcare staff provide certain diagnostic services closer to the patient, as outlined in the UK governmentÆs White Paper Our health, our care, our say: a new direction for community services.

By enabling tests to be performed and results obtained in a single day, delays in treatment will be reduced and the growing pressure on NHS laboratories will be relieved.

The White Paper was compiled in response to public demands for more choice and greater flexibility in accessing services locally. Among the strategies to meet these needs, improved access to services such as diagnostics in the community and more facilities in convenient settings are promised.

For such services to be viable, the diagnostic tests available must be simple and quick to perform, without complicated equipment and without the need for specialist expertise in the interpretation of results. Such speed and simplicity is found in the Xpect range of diagnostic tests, available from Oxoid. Among the tests available in the Xpect range are the XpectR Flu A & B, Clostridium difficile Toxins A and B, Cryptosporidium and Giardia, and respiratory syncytical virus tests.
