Abbott aid in aftermath of Katrina

Following the devastation caused to the Gulf Coast by Hurricane Katrina, Abbott sent its three Architour trucks to the area.

The Architour 18-wheelers are able to generate their own power and normally operate as mobile laboratories and instrument showrooms. ôWe retrofitted one of the Architour vehicles with high-volume chemistry/immunoassay analysers and sent it to Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleansö, explained Christy Wistar, divisional vice-president, marketing and commercial operations for Abbott Diagnostics in the USA. ôAnother Architour rig was fully outfitted with mobile devices and crammed with reagents, glucose meters and strips û the things we knew would be needed û and sent it to the Astrodome and Reliant Arena in Houston. The third Architour truck transported supplies throughout the affected areas.ö
